Chapter 21
Thatâs a Swagger
âYou didnât tell me you were dating a Blizzard player. Thatâs a definite improvement over the Australian tweeze.â River threw himself on Terraâs double bed, rumpling it after sheâd just made it.
She pressed her fingers to her temples to stop the thudding. âI am not dating a Blizzard player. Weâre just friends.â
He smirked, the jerk. âYeah, I heard all about how you met at the Polaris dealership. Did you have any clue who he was?â
What?
âI didnât know who he was when I met him, no.â She needed River out of her bedroom so she could text Cam and get a grasp on the missing pieces of the story. Now. âDonât you have somewhere to be?â
He picked up one of her throw pillows and started tossing it in the air. âNope. Thought Iâd hang with you today. Now that youâre buddy-buddy with one of the Blizzardâs top blueliners.â
She groaned inside. Oh great! âI have things to do. Girl things. So you just git.â She flapped her hands at him, but her brother didnât move.
He continued tossing the damn pillow while he inched up her bed, resting his muddy sneakers on her comforter, looking way too comfortable.
She perched her hands on her hips. âDonât you have a girlfriend or someone you can go bother?â
âNope. Iâm free as a bird. But I miss that feminine touch, so Iâll stick around your frilly room and get my fix for a while longer.â They had a stare-off. That is, she stared at him while he continued relaxing. âDad doesnât know.â
Her head jerked. âDoesnât know what?â
Riverâs eyes met hers over the cushion. âHe doesnât know that the guy who brought you home last night is a superstar NHL player.â
She blinked. âThen who does he think he is?â
River shrugged. âThe usual. Some douche trying to get into your pants. Now if he found out who that douche really is â¦â
That would be even worse! Rich pro athlete gunning for a quick roll between the sheets with his daughter. And if her father ever discovered that rich pro athlete was the same guy whoâd bought the mountain property next door? She shuddered just thinking about it.
âGuyâs actually not a douche, sis. Heâs pretty chill.â
âIâm sorry, I must have heard you wrong. Could you please repeat that?â
âHaha. I said the guyâs chill. If you hadnât been so wasted last night, you would have seen how cool, calm, and collected he was when he waltzed in here. He tells Dad, âIâve brought your daughter home. Sheâs had too much drink, itâs my fault, and she needs to lie down.â And he proceeds to ignore the two of us while he gets you situated on the couch. I thought Dad was going to blow a gasket.â River paused to chuckle. âThen when the guyâs all done getting you comfy, he stands up and faces Dad. The guy knew Dad was pissed, but he basically said, âBring it.â That took balls of granite.â
Terra didnât miss the admiration in Riverâs tone.
